As sealcoating and paving specialists, we want you to understand the products we use and why we use them. 

Coal tar sealant contains a highly toxic, carcinogenic group of chemicals: polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons or PAHs. Even the manufacturers of coat tar sealant admit that their product is extremely toxic.

In addition, PAHs do not easily degrade, and they find their way into lakes close to areas where coal tar sealant is commonly used. Officials have banned coal tar sealant in Highland Park and many surrounding suburbs. Home Depot and Lowe’s no longer sell coal tar sealant.

Fortunately, we have a viable alternative: Black Diamond Sealant

Black Diamond sealant manufactured by Gemseal is comparable in price and effectiveness to coal tar sealant and has a much lower level of toxicity.
